inside a change: what's the deal?

well the deal is that with some great luck i started a little recording studio called "between the trains" in the dumbo neighborhood of brooklyn, ny. this happened in the late summer of 2001. i've been using a pro tools rig in there and loving it. i started the record originally that summer in austin, tx with my good friend craig ross in his amazing home studio. we cut the song "roll away" and then later craig transferred the tape into the digital world for me to mix. craig helped with some loops and vocals on this one. the rest of the record was entirely done in my little basement room. i had started the tracking right around 9/11 and of course that put things on a slightly different path. i really wanted these new songs to have a sparse and simple quality to them. it was time to take a nice drive through the country. change was in the air all around. of course matt horn played a huge part in this providing a good sounding board for some of my ideas and just being there. along with his great drumming, matt layed down some cool clarinet and viola parts. a big new addition to the sound on this one is the piano. enter: tom siler. he had just moved from minneapolis here to ny and was playing with the king of france and tulip sweet and just blew me away with his tickling of the ivories. he had the feel that i was hearing in my head. i took care of the electric bass duties but there were a few songs that i wanted that classic upright sound. the wonderful jd foster came in and played beautifully balancing his simple playing with plenty of emotion. then there is drew glackin. there were a few songs that i wanted more of the classic lap steel sound that i knew that he could pull off better than me and so he did. ahh and the singing. yes that is pamela miller lending her beautiful voice to a couple of songs. my good friend nikko weidermann came in and layed down some tasty wurlitzer on some tracks before moving back to berlin. are you still with me? have you seen the cover yet? yes you have. it's right up there in the middle of the page. ray fiero produced this work of beauty once again going beyond the call of duty and nailing the image with the vibe of the record. i couldn't be happier. well that's about it. i just wanted to blab about a few things. i am currently trying to find a label to put this record out so send some good vibes my way and wish me luck that this happens sooner than later if you know what i mean. over on the right is the breakdown of the record. peace......dp
